Having a tone that this dean of American jazz critics, Leonard Feather, referred to as “velvety and silky,” Larry Douglas has ruled as you of San Francisco’s top trumpet/flugelhorn players for a lot more than three decades. Furthermore to leading his personal electro-acoustic group, the Larry Douglas Alltet, Douglas spent some time working with such stellar music artists as Freddie Hubbard, Chuck Berry, Albert Collins, Sunlight Ra and Rufus and Carla Thomas. As an associate of Johnny Otis and His Orchestra, his playing was presented on four albums like the Grammy-nominated Soul Of The Dark Territory Rings. His debut single recording Dedications, released in 1985, received an excellent response from followers in Europe as well as the Eastern Bloc. Douglas offers collaborated with flute/saxophone participant, and director from the jazz system at the University or college of California, Santa Cruz, Dr. Karlton Hester because the late-1970s, using Hester’s organizations, the Modern Jazz Artwork Movement as well as the Hesterian Musicism. The receiver of a Bachelors level in instrumental music education from Florida A&M, along with a Experts of Music level from the SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA Conservatory, Douglas offers shared his understanding with college students at Aptos Middle College, from 1981 until 1990, and Galileo SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL of SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, since 1991. He also shows a jazz background program at Vista Community University. A indigenous of Statesboro, Georgia, Douglas discovered early inspiration within the music of a mature sibling, Gary, who performed trumpet, and a higher school instructor and alto saxophone participant, James Blakely. Whilst in university, he and his music group, Funk, Incorporated, got first place within the nationwide and international degrees of the Budweiser Music Celebration competition. He shifted to SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, as an associate of america Army’s Sixth Department Music group, in 1975.
