Progressed from the multi-instrumentalist rhythmic collective Lulu & the Lampshades, London four-piece Landshapes gather ramshackle percussion with folk-pop melodies and joyous harmonies. The lineup was unchanged off their 2009 incarnation, which highlighted Luisa Gerstein, Heloise Tunstall-Behrens, Jemma Freeman, and drummer Dan Blackett — the just constant within a spinning lineup that noticed instruments handed and distributed among the various other members. Following the music group got toured under its previous moniker for two years, its name was misspelled Landshapes at a Paris place. This mixup became a happy incident that trapped as the group shifted further from the playful audio that spawned the YouTube strike “Mugs” and toward a bolder, experimental strategy. The materials penned beneath the modified name emerged after hours poured obsessively over every take note and drumbeat within their bid to master their craft within a dingy rehearsal space in London. They strike the studio room during past due 2011 with Ash Workman (Metronomy, Summertime Camp) and documented their debut full-length, Rambutan, which made an appearance in 2013 on U.K. indie label Bella Union. Because of their second record, Heyoon, the music group retreated to a cottage in Cornwall to create songs motivated by American brief tales and Dutch conceptual musician Bas Jan Ader, after that documented them with manufacturers Giles Barrett and David Holmes. Preceded with the Palindrome EP, a cooperation with London’s all-female choir Deep Neck, Heyoon — that was called after a mispronunciation of the magic formula pavilion in Southeast Michigan — found its way to May 2015.
