Laddie Cliff

b. Clifford Albyn Perry, 3 Sept 1891, Oxford, Oxfordshire, Britain, d. 8 Dec 1937, London, Britain. An amazingly gifted performer, Cliff made an appearance many capacities in the theater. He performed a comedy function in London in His Small Widows (1919), nonetheless it was his dance that obtained most plaudits. He proved helpful as choreographer on André Charlot’s The Outrageous Geese (1920), as well as the 1921 revue Pins And Fine needles. Also in 1921 he performed in The Co-Optimists, performing ‘Swanee’. When this present was revived in 1929 Cliff co-directed with Edwin Greenwood. Other London displays from the 20s and 30s where Cliff seemed to developing success consist of Tip-Toes (1926, with music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin), Female Luck (1927), WHICH MEANS THIS Is Like (1928), Love Lays (1929), The Millionaire Child (1931), Sporting Like (1934), and Over She Runs (1936). The final named was compiled by Stanley Lupino being a starring automobile for himself with Cliff in support. Within a 1938 film edition of this present, modified by Elizabeth Meehan and Hugh Brooks, both Lupino and Cliff repeated their assignments. It is with this that a glance of Cliff’s character, that therefore appealed to Western world End audiences, could be obtained. He was struggling to develop his widening market because, in 1937, while carrying out in a fresh stage display, Crazy Times, he became terminally sick. Cliff’s singing design can be noticed on many compilation CDs, including Avid Information’ Fascinating Tempo, and Quantity 2 of Pearl Information’ THE BEST George Gershwin.
