Using a band name produced from Italo Svevo’s 1923 book whose title translates from Italian into English as Zeno’s Conscience, the Genoa, Italy-based prog rock-band La Coscienza di Zeno was formed in 2007 by singer Alessio Calandriello, bassist Gabriele Guidi Colombi, drummer Andrea Orlando, and guitarist Matteo Malvezzi. Subsequently, keyboardists Stefano Agnini and Andrea Lotti and guitarist Davide Serpico emerged up to speed (with Serpico changing Malvezzi) before the recording from the band’s eponymous debut recording, released by Mellow Information in 2011. The recording presented lyrics penned by Agnini, deriving some motivation from Svevo’s psychoanalytic novel, which have been written by means of an autobiographical journal. La Coscienza di Zeno also presented appearances by several guest music artists, including Luca Scherani of Finisterre and Hostsonaten, playing accordion using one monitor and organizing the flute performed by visitor Joanne Roan on another. Keyboardist/lyricist Agnini departed La Coscienza di Zeno following a recording from the band’s debut recording, but he’d be back again to take part in the classes for sophomore outing Sensitivitá, released by AltrOck/Fading Information in 2013. A display (just like the 1st recording) for Calandriello’s passionate vocals, Sensitivitá discovered a lot of the group’s earlier lineup intact, also including Colombi, Orlando, and Serpico, although keyboardist Lotti from your debut have been changed by among that album’s guests, Luca Scherani, presented here on a range of keyboards, chromatic accordion, and bouzouki. Also coming back were visitor flutist Joanne Roan aswell as extra guests violinist Sylvia Trabucco; cellist Melissa Del Lucchese; and Rossano Villa, who performed Mellotron. Vocalist Calandriello and bassist Colombi would also become presented on another AltrOck/Fading Information recording apart from Sensitivitá: the eponymous debut of Wii Sign, a vintage ’70s prog-inspired music group spearheaded by guitarist/composer Francesco Zago and keyboardist Paolo “Ske” Botta, important users of AltrOck avant-prog ensemble Yugen. Zago and Botta experienced met the users of La Coscienza di Zeno in March of 2012 and, deeming the vocalist and bassist suitable to their eyesight of a music group that could explore old-school prog with a distinctive 21st century taste, asked them to become listed on the Wii Indication lineup. Calandriello and Colombi decided, with the effect being their looks on both Sensitivitá rather than a Good Indication upon both albums’ discharge in the summertime of 2013.
