La Ciapa Rusa

An outgrowth of well-known Italian band, Outfit Del Doppio Bordone, La Ciapa Rusa remains focused on the preservation of north Italian traditional music. Founded by hurdy-gurdy, dulcimer and psaltery participant and vocalist Maurizio Martinotti and two-row melodeon participant and vocalist Beppe Greppi, the group proceeds to mix traditional instruments, like the hurdy-gurdy, psaltery and piffero (a double-reed blowing wind device) and contemporary instruments including digital keyboards, sequencers, samplers and drum devices. Martinotti became a member of with violinist Bruno Raiteri to create a new music group, Tendachent, in 1997.
