L. Subramaniam

A gifted South Indian counterpart of Jean-Luc Ponty over the electric violin, and endlessly interested in all sorts of music, Subramaniam is a pioneer in exploring intelligent fusions between European classical music, American jazz, rock, and South Indian music. His dad, a get better at Indian violinist, and mom, who performed the Indian vina, had been his 1st musical affects, and after abandoning a profession in medication, he shaped a violin trio along with his two brothers while still in India. He toured America and European countries with Ravi Shankar and ex-Beatle George Harrison in 1974, produced his 1st fusion recording in Copenhagen (Garland), and had written materials for Stu Goldberg and Larry Coryell in 1978. He resolved in the LA region in the past due ’70s to be able to gain a doctorate in Traditional western music in the California Institute from the Arts, where he also trained South Indian music. He led an organization with Coryell, George Duke, and Tom Scott within the 1980s, and documented several exciting LPs for Milestone — including an LP with Stephane Grappelli — that fused traditional music, electrical and acoustic jazz, and South Indian music. Subramaniam in addition has written functions for traditional orchestras; his Violin Concerto juxtaposes naïve Hollywood-ish passionate music with South Indian tools and constructions. His debut for the Erato Detour label, Global Fusion, adopted in 1999.
