L may be the stage and saving name of France vocalist and songwriter Raphaële Lannadère. As a kid she noticed the music of Jacques Brel, Léo Ferré, and Barbara. She stated within an interview to have discovered Brel’s music as nursery rhymes when she was 4 or 5. She provided concerts to relatives and buddies throughout her youth, but became seriously interested in music while in senior high school. After graduating she began monitoring with an ethnomusicologist who trained her about Gypsy designs, fado, Eastern Western polyphony, gospel, and Corsican folk music. Lannadère started to work with additional vocalists, like the Cape Verdean designer Teófilo Chantre and Brazilian vocalist Ricardo Teté. In 1981 she find the stage name L, and started performing in Paris restaurants and night clubs supported by David Babin (aka Babx). Creating herself for the picture, she started giving appropriate concerts where she performed the functions of French legends from Édith Piaf and Barbara to Ferré, Juliette Gréco, Brel, and Charles Tréonline. L documented her debut EP, Premières Lettres, for the 3rd party Karbaoui label in 2008, which started to obtain airplay and essential notice. This year 2010 she was asked to execute at both renowned Le Printemps de Bourges and Les Francofolies de la Rochelle celebrations. Her songs had been also documented by pop celebrity Camélia Jordana. In 2011 she released her debut full-length providing, Initiale, via Tôt ou Tard/Wagram, having a prosperity of original materials and crossing styles from chanson to rock and roll, from folk to hip-hop. That yr she won both Barbara Prize as well as the Grand Prix du Disque for French Music. Initiale remained for the graphs for over 2 yrs.
