Kontrol

Best-known because of their hit “Merengue Party,” the Latin dance group Kontrol is actually a vocal quartet led by Jochy Rey (b. Jose Feliz) and offering Jaime Garcia, Wilbert Jorge, and Jose Pena. The group’s design, Merenhouse, mixes the merengue music that started in the Dominican Republic with horn-dominated preparations and club-oriented digital dance beats. Kontrol’s self-titled debut record premiered in 1995; the follow-up, Los Reyes de la Alegria, made an appearance in 1998 beneath the name Grupo Kontrol. Kontrol after that landed popular with “Merengue Party II,” which produced them staples around the golf club circuit, and released their third recording, Y2Kontrol, in 2000, which created another strike in “Un Volumen.”
