Kokanko Sata

A mom of three, from Wassoulou in southern Mali, Kokanko Sata broke taboos by learning the eight-string harp referred to as the kamalngoni. A “males only” device in Mali, Sata needed to build her personal kamalngoni and without the males ready to display her just how, she had to instruct herself to try out it. When Blur member Damon Albarn journeyed to her homeland to record an recording, Sata became included and finished up appearing for the self-titled, 2002 launch by Albarn’s Mali Music, the 1st launch for the Brit-pop singer’s Honest Jon label. In 2006, she released her personal self-titled full-length for the label.
