Biography

The centuries-old tradition of klezmer music, originally played by itinerant Jewish music artists in Eastern Europe, is extended by saxophonist, pianist, and composer Hankus Netsky and his group, the Klezmer Conservatory Band. With tracks sung in Yiddish, the music group incorporates an array of affects into its Jewish dance music. The Klezmer Conservatory Music group was shaped by Netsky, chairman from the jazz research department at the brand new Britain Conservatory of Music, in Boston in 1980. The grandson and nephew of klezmer music artists from the 1920s, Netsky was motivated by casual jam periods of Irish music to try something equivalent with klezmer music. Even though Klezmer Conservatory Music group was originally designed for a one-time concert, the reaction to the group’s efficiency was so advantageous it became a long lasting ensemble. Lots of the bandmembers had been recruited from the brand new Britain Conservatory of Music’s third stream section. While New York-born business lead vocalist Judy Bressler was a third-generation performer of Jewish music, a lot of the music artists originated from a history of jazz or folk music. The Klezmer Conservatory Music group was featured within a documentary film on klezmer music, A Jumpin’ Evening within the Backyard of Eden, in 1988. The group afterwards supplied the music for the film Foes, A Love Tale, Joel Grey’s Yiddish music revue Berschtcapades ’94, along with a children’s video, The Fool as well as the Traveling Ship, offering the narration of Robin Williams. The Klezmer Conservatory Music group also collaborated using the American Repertory Theatre as well as the American Music Theatre Festival on the musical, Shlemiel the very first, predicated on a perform by I.B. Vocalist. Furthermore to directing the Klezmer Conservatory Music group and teaching classes at the brand new Britain Conservatory of Music, Netsky is usually a member from the Yiddish Folk Arts Institute faculty and it has trained Yiddish music at Hebrew University.
