Home / Biography / Kleveland

After spending four many years of the ’90s co-leading the Portland, OR, rock and roll trio Spectator Pump, vocalist and guitarist Stephanie Smith decided it had been time and energy to strike from her own and therefore formed Kleveland in 2000. A difficult rocking however pop-oriented garage music group for the filthy pubs of Portland, Kleveland channeled the interest of works like X and early Pretenders, and released an EP in 2002 entitled Everybody REALLY WANTS TO. The group following released an eponymous record in 2006 via regional label Pampelmoose, which Smith became a member of pushes with drummer Danny Carbo (of region rock-band Thrillbilly) and bassist Matty K. The record was melodic and brutal, just as much Blondie and Cheap Technique since it was Joan Jett and Iggy Pop. By 2008, Kleveland had been made up of Smith rocking out alongside Carbo, bassist Allen Hunter (from the Eels), and second guitarist/vocalist Morgan Sophistication.
