Aussie singer/songwriter Kirin J. Callinan initial found prominence as the enigmatic guitarist for Sydney-based indie rockers Mercy Hands before striking from his own following the group imploded in ’09 2009. Identical parts Scott Walker, Trent Reznor, Birthday Party-era Nick Cave, Bryan Ferry, and Patrick Wolf, Callinan slashes a mercurial, frequently primal and androgynous amount, dabbling in from evocative electro-pop to arty, experimental rock and roll. His single debut, the thick, difficult, and eventually rewarding Terrible Records-issued Embracism, premiered in 2013.
