This hilariously inept Detroit bowling alley/lounge band was fronted by Ernie “King” Uszniewicz (b. 1945) from 1969 to 1979. The crudest tenor saxophonist in the annals of rock and roll & roll, Ruler Uszniewicz (pronounced “you-snev-vitch”) & the U-Tones acquired only one one, issued on an area label through the ’70s. Dubbed by one critic as “the most severe oldies music group I have you ever heard in my lifestyle,” they used a bludgeoning energy, oblivious to the actual fact that these were woefully timid in the skill department. Nevertheless, when the group’s initial album arrived on several university radio playlists in 1989, they gained a cult pursuing among both record enthusiasts and young substitute music fans.
