King Kooba

Biography

Breakbeat funk collective Ruler Kooba is led by previous Neneh Cherry and Howie B. cohort Charlie Tate and manufacturer DJ Shuff (Matt Harris). Merging DJ Shuff’s abilities with Tate’s preparations, the duo’s purpose would be to make information that work similarly well in the dancefloor and family room. In live configurations, they’re supported by Simon Richmond (Palmskin Productions) on keyboards and results, Greg Rowland (Neneh Cherry) on extra keyboards, Utmost Sedgeley (Roni Size, Breakbeat Period) on drums, V-Love (K-Creative) on guitars, and D’Jaine on vocals. Tapped in early stages by journalists because the Funkadelic to Roni Size’s Mls Davis, the group dispersed three LPs along with a clutch of singles between 1998 and 2000; producing their full-length debut in 1998 using the Imperial Option (with help from people of the newest Heavies as well as the Herbaliser), they implemented with 1999’s Enter the Throne Area and 2000’s NuFoundFunk. THE NEXT Skin act also offers countless compilation performances with their credit.

#Fact
1 Brown belt in Tae Kwon Do.
2 When asked about his feelings regarding his nomination of a Razzie Award for Worst Original Song for "Who's That Girl" which went to George Michael he answered: "I wish I had won. I don't know what I did right".
3 Born in New York City and both parents are from Puerto Rico.
4 As a member of Dr.Buzzard's Original Savannah Band Coati Mundi then known as Sugar-coated Andy was nominated for a Grammy.
5 His first appearance in a film was as an extra for "Cops and Robbers". Coati along with other Puerto Rican kids appear as part of the Central Park scene as members of the Spanish Harlem softball teams. This came about because while playing softball with some friends in a Spanish Harlem park they were approached by actor Joe Spinell and were asked if they could organize two teams of Puerto Rican youth to appear in the film. Years later he got to work with Joe Spinell again when Coati provided songs for Joe's film Maniac.
6 Was master of ceremonies at the NYC memorial for the late actor Charles Rocket.
7 As research for her role in the film "54"; took Salma Hayek on a guided tour of Spanish Harlem. During a visit to a local social club they ran into Marc Anthony's father. They began to sing various folk songs. This inspired Coati's suggestion to have Salma sing the classic Puerto Rican song "Lamento Boricano" for the film.
8 Was once a room mate of Esai Morales.
9 Was co-leader and music director for the '80s music group "Kid Creole and the Coconuts".
