Vocalist Ruler Ernest came up singing within the exciting Chicago blues membership scene from the 1950s and ’60s, posting stages with famous brands Tyrone Davis, Syl Johnson, and Small Milton Campbell. Given birth to and elevated in Natchez, MS, he discovered fundamental blues from his dad, a sharecropper who utilized to play acoustic guitar at regional juke joints. Following a 12 months at Southern University or college in Baton Rouge, he relocated to Chicago, where he discovered his motivation in night clubs that hosted famous brands Muddy Waters and Chester Burnett, better referred to as Howlin’ Wolf. His 1st professional displays in Chicago had been with guitarist Byther Smith. Later on, he found out the soul-blues stylings of performers like Syl Johnson and Tyrone Davis. These performers made a larger effect on his personal performing design, and he founded a status in Chicago’s golf club scene in the first ’60s nearly as good Rockin’ Ernie. In 1964, Baker remaining Chicago for NEW YORK, where a fresh band he created there offered him the nickname “Ruler” for his crazy dance antics on-stage. In 1965, Baker documented his 1st single, “PERSONALLY I THINK Alright” b/w “I’m Therefore Tired,” for the Aged City label, and loved modest success with the ’60s around the East Coast’s R&B golf club circuit until time for Chicago in 1967. He continued to be in Chicago for another a decade, documenting several singles for Chicago brands, including Sonic, Barry, and his personal Blue Soul Information. But recognition on the nationwide level still eluded Baker, who relocated to LA in 1980. Following a record offer he previously there didn’t arrive at fruition, he decreased out and required a job using the L.A. Region Sheriff’s Department, performing the majority of his performing in chapel as an associate from the Crenshaw Christian Middle Choir. After retiring from his day time job, he started playing shows once again at L.A. nightclubs, and his effective vocals and still-energetic stage persona quickly drawn a little legion of devoted followers to his golf club shows. After becoming found out by promoter and maker Randy Chortkoff, he started touring along the California coastline and into Canada. His debut record for Evidence Information, Ruler of Hearts, released in 1997, helped to broaden his viewers from a local following in NY, Chicago, and LA to a global following. In the documenting, Baker provided up his interpretations of tracks by Charlie Musselwhite, Hound Pet dog Taylor, Junior Parker, and Harold Burrage. He also tackled “Better Times,” a monitor co-written by guitarist Jimmy Rip and vocalist Mick Jagger from the Rolling Rocks. Appropriately, Rip followed King Ernest upon this track in the record. Blues Got Spirit followed 3 years afterwards, and unfortunately it might be his last documenting. Ruler Ernest was wiped out in an car accident on March 4, 2000.
