Kimmo Pohjonen

The recipient of Folk Musician of the entire year awards in 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999, Kimmo Pohjonen has taken today’s sensibility to the original accordion music of Finland. A experienced of pop and rock and roll bands, Pohjonen proceeds to use what he’s discovered towards the folk music of his homeland. His debut recording, Kielo, released in March, 1999, was called among the year’s greatest albums by Finland’s leading daily newspapers, Helsingen Sanomat. The child of the piano accordion participant, Pohjonen started playing the switch accordion at age ten. After learning traditional music at Helsinki Conservatory, from 1980 until 1985, he continuing to study traditional and folk music at Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy, which he went to from 1985 until 1996. Through the same period, he studied on the Bagamoyo University of Arts in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Primarily attracting attention along with his melodeon playing as an associate pop and rock and roll rings, including Toni Rossi And Sinitaivas, Pohjonen was asked to become listed on Finnish folk group Ottopasuuna. He continued to be with Ottopasuuna until 1998 when he briefly became a member of a rock-band, Ismo Alanko Saatio. Pohjonen amounts his solo profession with shows and recordings in Pinnin Pojat, a duo that he stocks with JPP fiddler Arto Jarvela. Pohjonen collaborated with Tapiola Sinfonietta within the springtime of 2000 on a genuine musical creation, Kalmusikkisin Fonia, that included a light present and quadrophonic sound files. The display debuted with three shows on the Savoy Movie theater in Helsinki. Pohjonen shows at Sibelius Academy.
