Hawaiian-born vocalist Kimie Miner mixes sun-drenched reggae-infused songwriting using a soulful pop sensibility. Delivered in Kailua for the isle of O’ahu, Miner went to college in NORTH PARK, where her music was uncovered by Jamaican reggae superstar Barrington Levy, who asked her to open up a tour for him. Producing her debut in ’09 2009, Miner billed herself basically as Kimie, launching the record Distant Traveller. Citing India.Arie, Bob Marley, and Amy Winehouse seeing that inspirations, Kimie’s music veered toward pop vocalist/songwriter but nonetheless bore the distinctive traces of Hawaiian impact. Her follow-up EP, To the ocean, premiered in early 2013 and highlighted efforts from fellow Hawaiians Imua Garza and Irie Appreciate. Another full-length, a self-titled established related to Kimie Miner, found its way to 2015 bearing a brighter, even more pop-oriented sound.
