Biography

Houston, Texas-based vocalist and pianist Kim Burrell telephone calls what she will “jazz gospel,” and her capability to write an excellent part of the materials she information and performs makes her a rarity within the gospel field. The buzz across the release resulted in her putting your signature on with Tommy Boy Gospel, which released another solo project, the Asaph Alexander Ward-produced Everlasting Life in 1998. Reside in Concert adopted in 2001, also on Tommy Boy. Sadly, the label folded a yr later on and she was briefly authorized to Elektra Information but only documented a small number of visitor places for the imprint, although she continuing to make regular live looks. In 2004 she produced an unlikely visitor start R. Kelly’s “3-Method TELEPHONE CALL” and sang with funkster George Clinton on his 2008 recording, George Clinton and His Gangsters of Like. She has distributed the stage with gospel performers Shirley Caesar, Donnie McClurkin, Karen Clark-Sheard, Yolanda Adams, Kirk Franklin, and Marvin Winans, amongst others, and spent some time working within the secular side with Missy Elliot, Chaka Khan, Stevie Question, Whitney Houston, and Harry Connick, Jr., to mention just a couple. She released her 1st new studio recording in 11 years, No Methods Tired, in ’09 2009 on Shanachie Information. Another new studio room effort, The Like Album, made an appearance from Shanachie 2 yrs later on in 2011 and fared well for the Billboard graphs, netting Burrell a Grammy nomination. Pursuing 2015’s From another Place, Burrell teamed up with R&B celebrity Pharrell Williams for the music “I Visit a Triumph,” that was featured within the 2016 film Hidden Numbers.
