Kilkenny Cats

Because Kilkenny Pet cats hailed from Athens, Georgia, and appeared in the Inside/Away film, it must not be implied that they appear to be contemporary local numbers like R.E.M. and Pylon. That assumption is definitely closer to accurate than to fake, though frontman Tom Cheek and organization do lend some fresh traits to alternate music’s rootsy part. The group debuted in 1984 with “Appealing Number,” and released their debut WITHOUT DOUBT two years later on, on Coyote Information. The follow-up Hammer was their last and greatest, though bassist Sean O’Brien re-appeared many years later on playing in Boston with Arrive.
