Kiane Zawadi

Mostly of the jazz music artists to try out the unwieldy euphonium, Zawadi can be an accomplished trombonist. He was created Bernard McKinney to a big, musically-inclined family; many of his nine siblings also became music artists. His initial professional gig was with pianist Barry Harris and saxophonist Sonny Stitt in 1951. In the first ’50s he performed in a music group led by bassist Alvin Jackson (sibling of vibist Milt). Through the middle-’50s Zawadi caused drummer Artwork Blakey, saxophonist Yusef Lateef, and trumpeter Donald Byrd. He visited NY with Lateef in 1959 and made a decision to stay; there he caused saxophonist Illinois Jacquet and trombonist Glide Hampton. He also documented with baritone saxophonist Pepper Adams, pianist/bandleader Sunlight Ra, trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, saxophonist Adam Moody and trombonist Curtis Fuller in the past due ’50s and early ’60s. He got the name Kiane Zawadi within the ’60s. Through the ’70s he documented and performed in a number of designs with such music artists as saxophonists Archie Shepp, Carlos Garnett, Harold Vick, and Frank Foster and trumpeter Charles Tolliver, in addition to pianists Money Brand and McCoy Tyner. In 1978 he started employed in the pit orchestra from the Broadway present “Dancin’.” In 1985 he performed within a concert tribute to Charlie Parker at New York’s City Hall. Zawadi in addition has used percussionist Mongo Santamaria, trumpeters Dizzy Gillespie and Clark Terry, saxophonist Joe Henderson, and vocalist Aretha Franklin, amongst others.
