Biography
A self-taught pupil of both electric guitar and piano, Kevin McKendree gained notice in the later ’80s, backing touring blues acts because they produced their way with the Washington D.C. region. The pianist arrived a gig on the European tour helping local blues star Tom Principato, so when it conflicted along with his last exams at close by Virginia Commonwealth School, McKendree shut the books and got on the plane. Following a three-and-a-half calendar year stint as a specialist musician, he came back to college, but just briefly. Flip-flopping between touring and attempting to carry down a “reputable” work, the pianist jumped at the opportunity to work as section of Lee Roy Parnell’s support band. Shifting to Tennessee and eventually gaining a Grammy nomination for his boogie woogie instrumental “Mama, Screw Your Hairpiece on Tight” (highlighted on Parnell’s 1997 record Every Night’s a Sunday Evening), McKendree discovered an unlikely house within the Nashville studios. In past due 1997, he shifted to even more familiar blues-roots touring with vocalist and harmonica participant Delbert McClinton. The 1990s demonstrated productive for the program man; his skills arrive on a lot more than 30 albums for such varied performers as Anson Funderburgh and Seven Mary Three. In 2000, McKendree released his first recording of solo materials entitled Miss Laura’s Kitchen.
