Kensington Prairie

Kensington Prairie may be the solo task of singer/songwriter Rebecca Rowan, who previously launched the Vancouver-based indie pop act Maplewood Street in 1999. While fronting that music group, Rowan embraced folk-inspired songwriting before implementing a power, poppier design. She returned towards the earthy, close sounds of modern folk by releasing Kensington Prairie in 2005, although Rowan’s vocals and melodic transforms push her single material nearer to the pop/rock and roll camp. Backed by piano, vibraphone, electric guitar, cello, as well as the tasteful creation of Jon Anderson (through the Canadian music group Jonathan Inc.), Rowan produced her single debut in 2008 with Kensington Prairie’s Captured in Still Lifestyle.
