Following the demise of his first band Steeler following departure of Swedish guitarist Yngwie J. Malmsteen, vocalist Ron Keel drafted guitarists Marc Ferrari and Bryan Jay, bassist Kenny Chaisson, and drummer Dwain Miller to create his self-monickered group, Keel. The band’s initial album, LAY OUT legislation, premiered by unbiased Shrapnel Information and attracted the interest of Kiss bassist Gene Simmons, who became the band’s coach, eventually assisting them indication with MCA Information.
