Keb Darge

Heavily involved with Northern soul as well as the development of what he termed “deep funk” — being a DJ, compilation producer, and label operator — Keb Darge’s route through a tireless promotion of neglected and forgotten soul and funk in the ’60s and ’70s began when he was a normal on the Wigan Casino, the epicenter of Northern soul. Through his past due teenagers and early twenties Darge was a dynamic DJ, but ultimately transferred to London and ended spinning. With the past due ’80s, on the elevation of home music’s reputation in the U.K., he was DJing once again and began a club evening known as Deep Funk. Heading against the grain, he and his affiliates struggled to construct an enduring picture and aesthetic, nonetheless it all begun to thrive once he set up himself through a normal deep funk evening at a Soho membership known as Madame JoJo’s. Still DJing through the first 2000s, Darge come up with many compilations, including BBE series like Keb Darge’s Legendary Deep Funk, Spirit Spectrum, Jazz Range, and Funk Range; he and Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA provided a disk each of options for BBE’s Kings of Funk established. He branched out with Shed and Present: Rockabilly and Leap Blues, another two-disc BBE compilation, this time around distributed to Cut Chemist. The rockabilly and browse series Keb Darge & Small Edith’s Legendary Crazy Rockers, another BBE project, extended to three amounts by July 2013.
