Kayhan Kalhor

Kayhan Kalhor is really a author of Kurdish and Persian traditional music and popular as an associate from the Persian/Kurdish folk and traditional ensemble Ghazal and Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Street Ensemble. He’s also virtuoso for the kamancheh, setar, and Persian violin. He’s internationally renowned for his initial functions, his interpretations of traditional music, and his collaborations with additional traditional and modern music artists. Kalhor was created to some Kurdish family within the Kermanshah Province of Iran, but elevated in Tehran. Their debut providing, The Blowing wind, an album-length collection, made an appearance on ECM to global acclaim. Kalhor was active in 2007: two Experts of Persian Music recordings — Saze Khamoosh and Soroude Mehr — noticed release, as do the Silk Street Ensemble’s New Impossibilities. In 2008, Kalhor collaborated using the Brooklyn Rider string quartet on Silent Town, which featured not merely his kamancheh and setar playing, but two of his compositions which were commissioned with the group. The Silk Street Ensemble’s 2009 record, From the Map, was nominated for the Grammy. In 2011, Kalhor collaborated with youthful Iranian percussionist/composer Madjid Khaladj on Voices from the Tones (Saamaan-E Saayeh’haa). That season he also added to the soundtrack for Movie theater Jenin by Marcos Vetter, and in 2012 with Brooklyn Rider for the rating to Rhino Period by Bahman Ghobadi. Afterwards in the entire year, he and santoorist Ali Bahrami Fard documented I Will Not really STANDALONE. Kalhor’s second collaborative ECM record with Erzincan, Kula Kulluk Yakisir Mi: Reside in Bursa, premiered in nov 2013.
