Kathy & Carol

Kathy & Carol were the folk duet of Kathy Larisch and Carol McComb, who did a single record of harmonized Renaissance ballads for Elektra in 1965. Though relatively emblematic from the high, 100 % pure female vocals which were therefore widespread in early-1960s folk music, there’s beauty and creativity towards the vocal harmonies, generally done with classical guitar accompaniment, and occasionally completed a cappella. In Jac Holzman and Gavan Daws’s publication Follow the Music: THE LIFE SPAN and High Instances of Elektra Information in the fantastic Many years of American Pop Tradition, maker Paul Rothchild phone calls it “the most amazing Renaissance ballad record I have you ever heard. It’s simply perfect. If you want Joan Baez, here’s Joan Baez instances two, with beautiful harmony, performing purist tracks like angels.” Kathy & Carol under no circumstances did another recording, although Rothchild identifies making another album nearly a year later on in the same publication, claiming how the innocence from the debut LP had opted.
