Kate Maki

A grade-school French instructor by day time, Kate Maki spends her evenings like a folksy singer/songwriter, singing her materials inside a half-spoken way and strumming her acoustic guitar just like a percussive instrument. Given birth to and elevated in Sudbury, Ontario, Maki didn’t completely pursue music until many years into her teaching profession. Her debut recording, 2003’s Misunderstandings Unlimited, received accolades because of its mixture of folk and alt-country, and Maki came back the following season with SUNLIGHT WILL SEE Us. Both albums gained top honors on the North Ontario Music and Film Honours, and Kate Maki widened her strategy for 2008’s On Great, working with Large Sand’s Howe Gelb and eliciting support from such American retailers as radio place KCRW.
