Biography
b. 23 Feb 1971, Poor Ischl, Austria. Musically willing through her mom, a music instructor, and her grandfather, a conductor, Strassmayer performed recorder from age four, in that case piano and flute. At 17 she began on alto saxophone after hearing Cannonball Adderley, later on recalling the way the encounter swept her off her ft. Graduating from Graz Musikhochschule having a Grasp’s Level in Jazz Overall performance, she received a scholarship or grant to the brand new School for Sociable Research, NEW YORK. She became business lead alto saxophonist and presented soloist with all-female big music group DIVA, led by Sherrie Maricle, and can be a member from the DIVA little group, Five Play. Furthermore to alto, Strassmayer takes on soprano saxophone, flute and clarinet. Among additional bands and performers with whom she’s performed in concert and in addition occasionally on record are Lew Anderson’s All-American Big Music group, Ray Anderson, Candido, Friend DeFranco, the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Artwork Farmer, Don Friedman, Wycliffe Gordon, Chico Hamilton, Jeff Hamilton, Sheila Jordan, Dennis Mackrel, Herbie Mann, Drori Mondlak, Michael Phillip Mossman’s NYC Latin Jazz Orchestra, Tag Murphy, Lewis Nash, Tommy Newsom, Chico O’Farrill’s Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, Turn Phillips, Bobby Sanabria’s Afro-Cuban Jazz Desire Big Music group, Lynn Seaton, Bobby Shew, Clark Terry, Marlene VerPlanck, the Vienna Artwork Orchestra, the Scott Whitfield Jazz Orchestra, Frank Wess, Nancy Wilson, Phil Woods, along with the brand new York Pops at Carnegie Hall. Apart from Adderley, Strassmayer cites as her affects Charlie ‘Parrot’ Parker, Sonny Rollins, Expenses Evans, Stan Getz and Kenny Garrett. A strikingly gifted musician, Strassmayer’s playing discloses not merely her fluid specialized skills but additionally considerable improvisational capability. Her excellent compositions are an expansion of her playing, showing as they perform the cleverness and psychological depths that characterize her function. Since 2004, she’s been an associate of Western German Radio Big Music group, Cologne. Within the DownBeat Visitors’ Poll for both 2004 and 2005, Strassmayer was voted in to the best five alto saxophonists. Furthermore to her use many market leaders, in the first 00s she shaped the tiny group, KLARO!. Within the fall of 2005 Strassmayer toured with Joe Zawinul and with Joe Lovano.
