Karma-Ann Swanepoel 1st rose to nationwide acclaim within Henry Ate, a South African music group whose 1997 release, Slap in the facial skin, became one of the primary South African releases from the past due 1990s. Carrying out a switch in record businesses, however, Swanepoel made a decision to drop the band’s name to reveal the actual fact that such produces were, more often than not, her solo function. Retaining just guitarist Julian Sunlight from the initial lineup of Henry Ate, she documented and released her second recording — which doubled as her 1st solo album beneath the “Karma” moniker — in 1998. Karma still left South Africa in 2003 and resettled in the us, choosing to pursue her single career while located in LA. Although her music was generally motivated by folk and rock and roll, hip-hop fans got see in 2008 when Karma sued Lil Wayne over his unlicensed sampling of her music.
