Kálmán Balogh

The musical traditions of Central and Eastern Europe are raised up to now by jazz-influenced cimbalom player Kálmán Balogh. Associated with his music group Gypsy Jazz — offering trumpet participant Ferenc Kovács, violinists Sandor Budai and Laszlo Main, and dual bass participant Csaba Novak — Balogh creates a musical tapestry of improvisation and virtuosity. Based on Songlines, Balogh “includes a brilliant technique which transmits his hands skating gently over the strings or defeating out relentless rhythms.” An identical view was portrayed by www.greenmanreview.com, which stated, “[W]hen Balogh isn’t maddeningly driving the swiftness limit of his dulcimer mallets, he’s in the backdrop providing regular staccato tempo and counterpoint.” Descended from an extended line of well-known Hungarian Gypsy music artists, Balogh is really a graduate from the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music.
