Bluesy folk quartet Kaleo hail from the city of Mosfellsbær, just beyond Reykjavik. They infuse soulful vocals with smoky rhythms comparable to Hozier or Ray LaMontagne. Produced by childhood close friends Jökull Júlíusson (vocals, electric guitar), Davíð Antonsson (drums), and Daníun Ægir Kristjánsson (bass), they started playing jointly as teenagers, afterwards adding guitarist Rubin Pollock towards the combine and implementing the name Kaleo, a Hawaiian phrase that means “the audio.” Motivated by a variety of blues, folk, nation, and rock and roll, they produced their live debut in 2012 on the Icelandic Airwaves music celebration and documented their initial singles the next calendar year.
