Kaleef

After an abortive encounter with a significant label, Manchester, Britain hip-hop act Kaleef rose to prominence by the end of 1996 using a UK Best 40 single for an unbiased label. The group originally agreed upon to London Information in 1993 as the Kaliphz (their name translating as ‘Ruler’ or ‘Messenger’ within an Arabic tongue). These were taken jointly after 2Phaaan (pronounced Du-farn) and Jabba Da Buzz (aka The Alien) noticed the Rocksteady Staff performing on the Runcorn Ideal Homes Exhibition in 1982 and became embroiled in the breakdancing and graffiti actions within their neighbourhood, developing breakdance staff Dizzy Footwork the same calendar year. They were shortly joined up with by Hogweed, as well as the trio started hanging out jointly, before finally adding Chokadoodle and SniffaDawg to comprehensive the line-up. The group was supported by a creation group entitled Funk Regulators, a junior back-up rap squad the Underhogs, an all-female troupe the Berserkers, a blended competition group Freaks Of Character, and a freestyle single rapper, Paraphinalia. These were paid significant amounts of attention with a media captivated by their mostly Asian origins, as well as the agreement with London was rumoured to involve a big advance. Nevertheless, the group’s debut record, Seven Deadly Sins, stalled commercially, as do a series of singles.
