Julius Rietz

Julius Rietz was a cellist who was simply mostly known for his efforts like a conductor so that as an editor. He researched with Romberg amongst others and performed the cello throughout the majority of his profession. Like a conductor Rietz kept the next positions: associate conductor to Mendelssohn at Dusseldorf (1834); successor to Mendelssohn at Dusseldorf in 1835; conductor from the Leipzig Opera from 1847 until 1854; movie director of Gewandhaus concerts; teacher of composition in the Leipzig Conservatory; and, conductor at Dresden from 1860. Like a conductor and cellist he continuing to perform especially with Ferdinand Hiller and Ferdinand David. Like a composer Rietz obtained three operas, three symphonies, four concertos, and an oboe and string quartet. Rietz’s most significant contribution to the history of music had been his editions and arrangements of the entire functions of Mendelssohn and his redaction of a number of the ratings of Handel and Mozart for gathered editions.
