Juan Acuña

After fronting three-time Grammy Award nominees Los Terribles del Norte through the entire 1990s, Juan Acuña split to create a norteño band of his own, Juan Acuña y el Terror del Norte, on the turn of the decade. Most widely known because of their corridos and cumbias, Los Terribles del Norte documented many albums for Freddie Information through the ’90s, including a trio of Grammy Award-nominated initiatives: Un Bronco (1993), Colgado de el Arbol (1998), and Décimo Aniversario (1999). Acuña (vocals, bajo sexto) divide from bandmates Francisco Mendez (vocals, electrical bass), Benny Mendez (accordion), and Jesse Tavar (drums) following release of Un Ultimo Paso (2000). While Los Terribles del Norte soldiered on with a fresh vocalist, Acuña shaped a new band of his very own, Juan Acuña y un Terror del Norte, made up of Pablo Villaneuva (accordion), Rafael Dorantes (bass), and Raul Baez (percussion). They produced their full-length record debut with Juan Acuña con un Terror del Norte (2002), accompanied by Pa’ Toda Mi Raza…Eso! (2003), the last mentioned which was nominated to get a Latin Grammy. Acuña y un Terror del Norte after that shifted to Univision Information for their following four albums: De Herencia Picuda (2004), Corridos Perrones (2005), No Se Que Traigo en los Ojos (2006), no Me Rajo (2008). Their following few albums, Me Siento Picudo (2009) and Corridos de Puro Pico…Eso! (2011), designated a go back to Freddie Records.
