Among the Bay Area’s top guitarists & most popular performers for more than ten years, Joyce Cooling’s Performing It Great is a dazzling display of her eclectic method of music. Sketching upon a broad palette of affects which range from acclaimed Brazilian guitarist/vocalist/songwriter João Bosco to excellent Tx bluesman Stevie Ray Vaughan, an average Cooling performance generally combines jazz, pop, funk, and R&B using a smattering of worldbeat. Playing It Great, her Minds Up International debut record, created and co-arranged with her longtime musical partner, keyboardist Jay Wagner became a preferred of soft jazz world fans. The initial radio one, “South of Marketplace,” soared to number 1 in the united states on both Gavin Report’s and Radio & Information’ soft jazz charts keeping the positioning for five consecutive weeks. Chilling was nominated for the Gavin Clean Jazz Designer of the entire year, called the Jazz Trax Debut Designer of the entire year, and was voted Greatest New Designer in the easy jazz group of a Jazziz Visitors Poll. Playing It Awesome, which can be an improved CD has many standout songs: the chugging “Carrie” that noises much like a Paul Hardcastle monitor; the snappy “Coasting”; “Aint Existence Grand” with an acoustic bass firmness which has rumbling stride like the bass collection on Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean”; with solid clogged piano chords and bluesy, Wes Montgomery-like acoustic guitar lines, “Before Dawn” is within the same vein; and Chilling takes a change at vocals on “Basic Kind of Like,” that includes a Michael Franks taste. Taking into consideration the great selection of music, her huge family encircled her back again East in the brand new York City region, Chilling couldn’t help but possess such a broad love of various kinds of music.
