Josse (Charles) Boutmy

The patriarchal figure from the South Netherland category of music artists (excepting his father and grandfather who had been both organists in Ghent). He tuaght harpsichord towards the Princess of Arenberg and was the organist for the Prince of Thurn and Taxis. The main contribution Josse Boutmy still left being a musical legacy had been his three books of harpsichord music. Couperin’s impact is apparent in the region of their actions and melodic adornments while the impact of Scarlatti and Handel are indicated respectively through explanation and easy transitions. These features are all within Boutmy’s first publication as the second and third ilustrate early sonata constructions and tastes of C.P.E. Bach.
