An excellent bop-based guitarist, Joshua Breakstone discovered jazz when he was 14. He analyzed for quite some time with Sal Salvador, however at that time was gigging frequently with a rock and roll group. He went to Berklee, and in 1977, toured Canada using the reed participant Glen Hall, producing his documenting debut on Hall’s Sonora launch. After and during teaching guitar in the Rhode Isle Conservatory of Music (1979-1981), Breakstone worked well in NY with Warne Marsh, Emily Remler, Dave Schnitter, and Vic Juris. In 1983, he documented his first recording (Fantastic!) for Sonora. While that day experienced Barry Harris on piano, his follow-up presented Kenny Barron. Breakstone continued to record for Modern (including a quartet day offering Pepper Adams), Capri, Proof, and Double-Time, assisting keep carefully the legacy of silent bop acoustic guitar alive.
