Biography
Joseph Flummerfelt’s choral performing profession has traced a reliable yet meteoric trajectory: for over 25 years, his performances have already been well known over the world’s most prestigious concert halls and in over 35 recordings on 12 different brands. Flummerfelt went to DePauw School for his initial studies in body organ and cathedral music, graduating in 1958. He implemented this using a master’s level in choral performing in the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music (1962) along with a doctorate in the School of Illinois (1971); he also examined under Nadia Boulanger, Julius Herford, and Elaine Dark brown. Furthermore to portion for 23 years as maestro di coro for the Celebration of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy, Flummerfelt continues to be movie director of choral actions for the American spin-off Spoleto USA in Charleston, SC, since 1977. He produced his performing debut with the brand new York Philharmonic in 1988 and acts as chorusmaster for this ensemble. He in addition has founded and is constantly on the direct the brand new York Choral Performers. He taught on the School of Illinois (1963-1964), DePauw School (1964-1968), and Florida Condition School (1968-1971), before signing up for the faculty at Westminster Choir University (from 1971). Among his many honours will be the French Prix du Président de la République, two Grammy nominations, and four honorary doctorates.
