José Antonio Moreno

Although multi-instrumentalist Moreno takes on violin, mandolin, guitar, and bajo sexto, he’s most known for taking part in fiddle within the conjunto style common across the Texas-Mexico border. A musician since his pre-teens, he produced his 1st recordings in the 1970s beneath the name Los Patrulleros Del Norte, with vocalist/mandolinist Herminia. Within the 1980s and 1990s he documented for several little brands, including RyN, Triple E, and an instrumental accordion arranged Santiago Jimenez Jr.’s Main imprint. His 1999 Arhoolie launch, Un Fidelero Del Valle, differs from many modern conjunto recordings in its emphasis upon the fiddle and mandolin, as well as the near-absence from the accordion.
