Among the best bassists from the 1990s (on both acoustic and electric powered), Patitucci’s velocity, very clear firmness, and versatility are very impressive. He began playing bass when he was 11, was raised in North California, and in 1978 relocated south near LA. He used Space Mangione (1979) while likely to university, and during 1982-1985 worked well in LA with Tom Scott, Robben Ford, Stan Getz, Larry Carlton, Dave Grusin, Ernie W, Freddie Hubbard, among others, furthermore to learning to be a studio room musician. In 1985, he obtained a higher profile when he became a member of Chick Corea mainly because a regular person in both Elektric and Akoustic rings. Patitucci toured and documented thoroughly with Corea and produced some his own varied classes for GRP and Stretch out (although he’s not as solid a composer as he’s a bassist). John Patitucci remaining the Elektric Music group in the first ’90s but continuing dealing with Corea on an intermittent basis.
