John Kongos

Before scoring a small number of minor hits within the U.K. in the later ’60s and early ’70s, John Kongos have been the first choice behind Johnny Kongos & the G-Men, a prolific defeat group from Johannesburg, South Africa that often made an appearance on that country’s graphs through the first fifty percent of the ’60s. In 1966, Kongos and several his affiliates relocated to London and cut a 1967 one as Floribunda Rose for Piccadilly. Floribunda Rose ultimately morphed into Scrugg, a psychedelic pop music group that released a trio of singles for Pye ahead of their 1969 break up. “I Wish I USED TO BE Five,” a 1968 B-side, obtained the most interest. Upon Scrugg’s divide, Kongos went single and released a small number of records, like the albums Confusions In regards to a Goldfish, John Kongos, and Tokoloshe Guy. The 1971 one “He’s Gonna Stage on You Once again” registered for the charts within the U.K. as well as the U.S. Sporadic reissues of Kongos’ function appeared through the ’90s, and in 2002, Castle released Lavender Snacks: 1966-1969, which mixed Scrugg and Floribunda Rose materials (both familiar and previously unreleased) with Confusions In regards to a Goldfish.
