John Hill Hewitt

The eldest son of Adam Hewitt, John composed mainly for the vocal medium. Associated his dad on travels to southern metropolitan areas, John obtained a flavor for teaching, composing, composing and confirming as he journeyed. Nearly all his “resident” intervals had been spent in Baltimore. A lot of his tracks for which he’s remembered had been sentimental. Typically the most popular included “All Calm Along the Potomac Tonight,” and “The Minstrel’s Return’d through the Battle.” He also constructed an oratorio “Jeptha” in 1845.
