John Gill

John Gill is among the best stride and trad jazz pianists of his era. He started playing a little toy piano like a youngsters and became a lover of the English pop pianist Russ Conway. Apart from some classical teaching, Gill was mainly self-taught. He created a two piano duo with Ron Weatherburn (Kenny Ball’s regular pianist) in London, worked well around Britain and in 1983 relocated to Australia. Gill offers appeared in america on an intermittent basis, playing in the Rocky Hill Ragtime Event in Boulder, Colorado as well as the Scott Joplin Event in Sedalia, Missouri. John Gill, who’s not to become recognised incorrectly as another John Gill who performs banjo and drums, offers recorded solo models for Stomp Off (1983), the Australian Demand label (1989) and Piano Mania (1993).
