John Critchinson Quartet

b. 24 Dec 1934, London, Britain. Pianist Critchinson appeared to springtime from nowhere in 1979 when he became a member of Ronnie Scott’s Quintet. Actually he had performed semi-professionally for quite some time while keeping his nonmusical ‘day work’. He previously used piano lessons in early stages, but he was an excellent player ‘by hearing’ and was therefore efficiently self-taught. From 1980-83 he was using the extremely successful Morrissey-Mullen music group and continuing with Scott: certainly he once toured with both rings simultaneously. He in addition has caused drummer Martin Drew’s personal group, and in the middle-90s created a quartet with saxophonist Artwork Themen, bass participant Fave Green, and drummer Dave Barry.
