Biography
Not to end up being confused with the North Exposure professional, John Corbett can be an important body about Chicago’s fertile experimental music picture. A guitarist and consumer electronics manipulator, Corbett’s primary contributions have non-etheless result from behind the moments — as an achieved article writer, journalist, educator, maker, and (from 2000) the curator from the Atavistic label’s Unheard Music Series reissue system. Given birth to in Chicago in 1963, Corbett discovered his method to free of charge jazz from your even more abrasive and experimental edges of rock and roll music; a mainly self-taught musician, he was inspired to consider up acoustic guitar after hearing Derek Bailey. He started authoring improvised music while going to Brown University or college, where he founded a concert creation company in 1984. He continued to earn his doctorate at Northwestern, and required a teaching post in the Artwork Institute of Chicago in 1988. In 1990, Corbett started composing for Down Defeat, eventually learning to be a business lead reviewer and older contributor; he also freelanced for several additional jazz and avant-garde music magazines, and protected the Chicago picture extensively for regional press. He hosted every week radio displays on two different channels specialized in improvised music, and helped take up a every week concert series (not forgetting annual event) in the Clear Bottle, programming lots of the biggest titles in modern free of charge jazz. In 1994, Duke University or college Press released his first publication, Prolonged Play: Sounding FARAWAY FROM John Cage to Dr. Funkenstein. The next 12 months, he received his 1st producer’s credit, and continued to oversee produces by Fred Anderson, Ken Vandermark, Peter Brötzmann, Misha Mengelberg, Evan Parker, and Mats Gustafsson, amongst others. Previously an infrequent general public performer, Corbett released his first Compact disc for Atavistic, I’m Ill About My Hat, in 1999; furthermore to playing acoustic guitar, he handled digital sound remedies, and welcomed several so-called “Large Friends” from your Chicago scene. Exactly the same 12 months, he cut a duo recording with Gustafsson, Sticky Tongues & Kitchen Kitchen knives. In 2000, the German Random Acoustics label released Battuto, and Corbett was set up as manufacturer of Atavistic’s Unheard Music Series, an archival task focused on reissuing lost free of charge jazz landmarks or getting previously unavailable recordings to the general public for the very first time anywhere (produces included function by Brötzmann, Joe McPhee, and Sunlight Ra). Twofer, a couple of electric guitar duets Corbett documented with cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm or bassist Torsten Müller, premiered by Penumbra in 2001, and Corbett also teamed up with guitarist Davey Williams on Humdinger. In 2002, Corbett released his second reserve, Microgroove: Further Forays Into Various other Music.

Looks like we don't have salary information. Sorry!

1 | My job [on the set] is to suck it in and try not to [mess] up my words. |
2 | Extra work [in film] is boring for the extras, and I started to feel like an extra with lines -- it wasn't that challenging to me. So I made a record and...the Nashville community really embraced me. But I gotta tell you, after a couple of years of being out on the road with three other guys in a van...you have a real appreciation of somebody coming to your trailer door and saying, "Mr. Corbett, can we get you a cappuccino?" What I found was, in the two years that I stopped doing it, I really missed it and liked the environment of a movie set and the relationships. |
3 | Acting may be how I've made my living, but music has always been my passion. |
4 | In Hollywood if you're good looking, tall, have okay teeth and nice skin, the odds of being successful are great. If you're short and fat, it's a different story. But as long as you look like a leading man type, half your job is done already. |
5 | Acting is a win-win situation. There is no risk involved. That's why I get tired of hearing actors who try to make out that there's a downside to it. Fame is an odd thing. It bugs you a little bit, but it's really not bad. |
