A fixture in the Deer Mind Inn in Pennsylvania’s Delaware Drinking water Distance for over 25 years, John Coates, Jr. (an early on motivation for Keith Jarrett) continues to be creating worthwhile music (a little in the Expenses Evans vein) for a number of decades generally obscurity. He began playing piano quite youthful, researched at Mannes University of Music as well as the Dalcroze College of Music, and believed seriously to become a concert pianist. But after he found out jazz, he transformed his path. In 1955, at age 17, Coates documented a collection for Savoy (Family portrait), and toured with Charlie Ventura from 1956 to 1958. After graduating from Rutgers in 1962, he worked well to get a music publisher in Delaware Drinking water Gap like a composer/arranger and began performing regularly in the Deer Mind Inn. John Coates documented a collection for Omnisound in 1974 and produced a number of information for the small label from 1977 to 1980 prior to going back again to his low profile. Following a bout with poor health, he documented several CDs for Pacific St. in 1996-1997.
