A multi-talented musician, John Clayton deserves a lot more recognition. An excellent bassist whose bowed solos are beautiful, Clayton can be a top-notch arranger and composer. A protégé of Ray Dark brown (whom he documented with on several events, including a past due-’90s cooperation with fellow bassist Christian McBride), Clayton found important early knowledge playing with Count number Basie’s Orchestra for just two years. He provides co-led the Clayton Brothers along with his youthful sibling, altoist Jeff, on / off since 1977, and in 1985 come up with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, alongside Jeff Clayton and drummer Jeff Hamilton. Clayton’s graphs for the best band, which are occasionally a little similar to Thad Jones, provide it its musical character. John Clayton in addition has worked extensively being a freelance bassist and arranger.
