John Burnett & His Orchestra

Trumpeter and big-band innovator John Burnett attended the Royal Army College of Music as well as the Royal Academy of Music in London, Britain, and led big rings within the U.K. for near twenty years before relocating to Canada in 1980, and following that to Chicago in 1990. In 1996 he became a member of the personnel of radio train station WDCB, getting the morning sponsor from the show EVERYTHING Jazz. In 1999 Burnett created an orchestra made up of top-notch Chicago jazz music artists, a few of whom experienced played with famous brands Glenn Miller and Barrett Deems and many had been section of Lenny King’s Chicago Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra. Comprising five saxes, four trumpets, four trombones, piano, bass, drums, and generally a minumum of one vocalist, the orchestra, led by Burnett, specific in 1940s-design big-band golf swing music. A debut recording, Swingin’ within the Windy Town, premiered in 2000 by Lakeside Information and presented jazz clarinetist Friend DeFranco like a visitor on three songs. A second launch, West of Condition Road/East of Harlem, made an appearance in 2008 from Delmark Information, this time around spotlighting trumpeter Randy Sandke.
