A long time before the Jerky Males, Crank Yankers, or Roy D. Mercer found calling, prankster John Bean was producing crank phone calls and documenting them. Documented in the past due ’70s and early ’80s, these tapes became referred to as “The Redneck Tapes” because of the southern deep-fried personality Bean assumed, the “Whup Ass Guy” LeRoy Mercer. These tapes will be approved around among truckers, record shop clerks, and music artists including Mel Tillis and Chris Isaak who both counted themselves as followers. Bean succumbed to malignancy in the first ’80s and since how his tapes and character types weren’t copywrited and even officially released, bootlegging his recordings and stealing his take action was easy. Mercer who released several effective albums in the Bean design, however they became thrilled in 2008 when the Dualtone label announced they might be officially liberating the recordings by using Bean’s sister Betty.
