Joey Scarbury

An American pop/smooth rock singer/songwriter most widely known for his 1981 hit “Theme from the best American Hero (Contrary to popular belief),” Joey Scarbury was created in Ontario, California and elevated in Thousand Oaks, where he was motivated by his mom to check out his dream and pursue a profession in music. A precocious vocalist, Scarbury started honing his chops at an extremely early age, and was found out by the daddy of Jimmy Webb. He cut his first solitary, a cover of Webb’s “She By no means Smiles Anymore,” in 1968, and spent the next 13 years documenting for several record brands and singing support vocals for Loretta Lynn. A lot of those Lynn classes were documented with Mike Post, who go on to become perhaps one of the most prolific tv composers from the period. In 1981 Post tapped Scarbury to sing the theme tune for the superhero humor/drama THE BEST American Hero. The Elektra-issued one, which appeared for the album from the same name, peaked at number 2 and became a gentle rock and roll/pop radio staple for a long time to arrive, but despite getting a minor strike later that season with “When She Dances,” Scarbury’s amount of time in the mainstream will be fleeting. He continuing to utilize Post through the entire latter half from the 1980s, and in 1990 discovered achievement as the co-writer from the smash Oak Ridge Young boys hit “REGARDLESS OF How Great.”
